Little Bird Organics

Alright kids, it's time to wake up, shake off those Saturday night hangovers, and have some recovery food. No, I'm not talking about the Maccas drive-through, I'm talking about Little Bird Organics. We are talking REAL recovery food here; completely raw and organic meals that will kick any Saturday night guilt out the door.

Little Bird originally opened in Kingsland, but have since opened a new store in Summer Street in Ponsonby. The girls live just down the road from the Ponsonby store, so we strolled up one weekend to get our heath food kick, and were all pretty impressed.

The space itself is beautiful with exposed brick, natural wood, and full of plants to compliment the organic theme.

Little Bird isn't your usual cafe- there are no hot mochas, bacon, eggs, or anything of the sort. The closest you will get to a hot cuppa is their cold brew chemex coffee, served over ice, which are becoming increasingly popular at cafes everywhere.

Food wise I was skeptical at first, but was quickly converted as soon as our food appeared. I chose the avocado bagel, Allie and Molly chose the mushrooms on 'toast', Jamie went with the mushroom benedict, and Alice had the berry granola. Everyone really enjoyed their meals, and while they all tasted very good, I often find with raw food it often tastes a bit...odd. Good, but odd.

My favourite was Alice's berries and granola, almost like a cool berry soup, it was perfectly tasty and tart for my liking, and will definitely be what I order next time. The funny thing was, although the meals weren't huge, we were all absolutely stuffed by the end and could hardly finish our meals. Just goes to show how filling organic raw food really is.

But, sadly we were so full that we couldn't fit it any of the amazing treats in the cabinet which I have heard great things about. From strawberry cheesecakes, pumpkin pie tarts, to tiny tasty bliss balls, Little Bird have nailed raw healthy treats.

As bikini season draws worringly closer, it's time to swap the burgers for berries, so head down to Little Bird and get your summer health kick sorted.

P.S. don't fret, I'll have some more burgers up soon (we can't be perfectly healthy all the time).
