Street Eats

When Auckland decided to have a mid-winter summer a few weekends ago, I strolled on down to the waterfront to meet Sarah and her Mum Rebecca at Street Eats. Part of Auckland Restaurant Month, Street Eats is where the food trucks rally together along with some of Auckland's best restaurants to show off their rendition of street food.

We started off at Orleans for fried chicken waffles and pulled pork po-boys. The fried chicken isn't to everyones taste, but for me it pretty much encompasses everything good (and bad) about American style food. It is a staple on their menu and rightly so, with the delicious sweetness of the waffles balancing the crispy chicken just-so.

We then spent the afternoon dipping and diving between the rather frantic crowds trying more morsels of food. The Grill were doing a Wagyu burger which looked amazing, but even a burger lover like myself couldn't bear the incredibly long line that snaked it's way down the whole building and out the door.

By the time we had filled our stomachs and had a laze around in the sun, the festival was in full swing, with some poor vendors looking absolutely worn out by the relentless hungry crowds.

We took the opportunity to make a quick exit and parted ways, and while they hopped on a train I grabbed a sorbet from my favourite gelato shop Valentinos to accompany me on the walk home.
