Bette's

On Sunday I met Hannah for a drink at Bette's in Devonport. A lot of our friends used to live in Devonport and on the weekend I'd catch the ferry over and we would run around Devonport causing trouble. Now slightly older, and hopefully slightly more mature it's nice to go back (hoping that no-one recognises me from back in the day).

Bette's is a cute little tapas bar on the main strip of Devonport. To be honest I'm almost getting sick of tapas, sometimes it seems like you can't even get your own meal these day. But they're popular for a reason, and Bette's do them well.

Last time I went I had the oysters, but I'd had a bit of an overdose on oysters the night before so this time I went with a snack of fat fries with truffle aioli. Hannah had the fish curry which she said was delicious, and we both had a few cocktails.

After Bette's we took her dog Gus up to the top of Mt Victoria just in time to catch the view before dark. The view itself warrants a trip to Devonport, but of course a bit of food and a few cocktails don't hurt. And check out those mushrooms!

If you can find a sunny afternoon and an excuse to catch the ferry over then get your travelling pants on and do it! It's $11 return, which is a small price to pay to bypass the painful Lake Road traffic jams.

P.S. If you do catch the ferry make sure you stop for gelato at Valentino's at the Ferry Building, come on- ditch the frozen yoghurt and live a little.
